“E ʻŌlelo Kākou!”

Welcome to the E ʻŌlelo Kākou Challenge! Use ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language) around the festival to engage with others and practice everyday phrases.

HOW TO PLAY

☐ Use a Hawaiian phrase in conversation around the festival.
☐ Post to Instagram tagging @palamafoundation → receive 1 raffle ticket.
☐ Complete the entire phrase card → return for 2 raffle tickets.
☐ Earn up to 3 total raffle tickets for participating fully!

ASKING ABOUT ITEMS

He aha ke kumukūʻai? – What’s the price?
  Pane (Response): $___ kālā – $__ dollars

No ke kāmala hea kēnā? – Which booth is that from?
  Pane: No ___ kēia – This is from ___

He ___ kāu? – Do you have ___?
  Pane: ʻAe (Yes). ʻAʻole (No)

I ___ naʻu, ke ʻoluʻolu. – ___ for me, please. (I would like ___, please)
  e.g., “I kopa naʻu…” = Soap for me, please. (I would like soap, please)

BASIC CONVERSATION

ʻO wai kou inoa? – What is your name?
  Pane: ʻO ____ koʻu inoa – My name is ____.

Pehea ʻoe? – How are you?
Pane Options:

  • Wela! (Hot)

  • ʻO ia mau nō (Same as usual)

  • Maikaʻi (I’m well)

  • Mākaukau e haʻalele (Ready to leave)

FOOD COMMENTS

Pōloli ʻoe? – Are you hungry?
  Pane: Pōloli au – I am hungry

Makewai ʻoe? – Are you thirsty?
  Pane: Makewai au – I am thirsty

Pehea ka meaʻai? – How’s the food?
  Pane Options: ʻOno! (Delicious) / ʻOno loa! (Very delicious)

CLOTHING SIZES

ʻO ka helu lole hea kou? – What size are you?
  Pane: __ koʻu helu lole – My clothing size is __

Nā Helu Lole (Sizes):

  • Liʻiliʻi (Small)

  • Lōpū (Medium)

  • Nui (Large)

  • Nui Keu (XL)

  • Nui Keu Pālua (XXL)

  • Nui Keu Pākolu (XXXL)

COMPLETE ALL PHRASES ABOVE and return to the booth for 2 raffle tickets!
